Ametek Programmable Power has introduced a high power extensible power supply series for power levels from 36 to 240kW

The Sorensen HPX "High Power Extensible" DC power supply series uses a modular architecture to allow different configurations of DC power supply from 10V at 6000A to 1000V at 240A.  The smallest 36kW systems fit in a 24U rack, whereas the largest 240kW systems require 2 x 36U racks.  All configurations are air-cooled using low noise temperature controlled variable speed fans.

The HPX series uses FET based high speed switching to achieve power conversion efficiencies of up to 87% at full load, with voltage regulation of 0.02% of max (40V to 1kV models) and current regulation of 0.1% of maximum. The use of a modular architecture means that the HPX system can be configured to be resilient to failures and can continue to function even in the event that one of the power building blocks fails. The use of separate modules also simplifies maintenance and spares inventory requirements.
